Acupuncture needles are so fine that people having treatment for the first time are surprised that it does not feel like an injection. It is common to feel a dull ache around the needles, which is considered a sign of therapeutic activity in the acupuncture points. Most people find Acupuncture treatment highly relaxing and of great therapeutic value.
As a member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (ATCM), the British Acupuncture Association (BAA), and the British Acupuncture Federation (BAF), I am bound by a strict code of ethics and practice which commits me to using single use pre-sterilised disposable needles, which are disposed of after each treatment. These hygiene and safety standards are approved by the Department of Health and provide protection against the transmission of infectious diseases. In addition, I have adopted all the guidelines to be covid-secure during the current pandemic. Please check how I am doing this here:
This varies according to the case. The severity of the condition, your age and constitution, and whether the symptoms are acute or chronic will be factors that determine the intensity and length of your treatment. Acupuncture is commonly offered in courses of 5 to 6 weekly sessions after which the need for further treatment is discussed. This is of course not a general rule as in some cases, like with sudden acute pains, it may take only one or two sessions to achieve results; while in others, like wit infertility treatment, it may take several months.
Acupuncture is considered a safe treatment for people of any age, and it can be effectively combined with other forms of treatment including Conventional treatment. Children and teens can also be treated with Acupuncture.
Acupuncture is not only safe, but it's a highly beneficial treatment during the different stages of pregnancy. As a preventative treatment, acupuncture can be used once a month to make sure mother and baby are in the best possible health; while in the last month of pregnancy a weekly acupuncture treatment helps to prepare the uterus for birth and prevent difficult labour. In addition, acupuncture can effectively help with symptoms that may arise during pregnancy.
